Monday's Thoughts and Tests



I got some good testing with the BA/GK list.  One game showed some weaknesses to a Void Shield - but I had some answers too it.  It also showed me some weaknesses to specific Necron builds - which makes me change up how the list works etc.  Overall not terrible and good thoughts nonetheless.  Will break it down after the paint list.

I can hit with all my warp charge dice turn one if I need too.  It seems a bit more janky but that is what I expect with a non death star nonsense list.  Got a new death star but I won't be looking at that. Will see.

First game was versus Orks - took a few turns, finally got close - then was able to get a hole into the set up with the void shield and burn all the Orks up.  The 2 Novas killed almost 2 Loota squads and part of a 30 man blob - then of course the run move incinerators killed everything else.  Without the Void Shield I would have killed the Orks so quickly.

Played 2 quick test games versus Necrons - Ben Mohile is the master at them and I figured out what I need to do.  Versus Wraith Spam I can just do novas, force, and hammer hand etc.  Versus Destroyer Cult I need to push for shrouding off of the Council and try to keep my butt protected.

The new set up has the Librarian roll all his powers on Santic.  He gets 4 powers due to the book so I could just roll all of them at once and see if I get cleansing flame.  I also get to Reroll ones on Santic Powers and can hopefully help my Purifiers get the casting done right.  Good times.  Force and Hammer hand will be a big bonus as well as Meph getting involved a Str 10 with force up.  The meltabombs are there to give me some help versus all the Rhinos and other things that might need a charge and explode action done.  This is the next list to test out.

Man this post took too long to write up



I kept getting side tracked with regular work, paint work, and kiddo/family etc. The life of having more to do then you have time to do.  Blah haha - lets do a paint list and then onto some meaty stuff.

Ah crap I need to pack up some stuff to ship too! Damnit!  I couldn't find the tape last night...

Alright - as you know I have been trying out a new army - the GK/BA thing.  I've played 3 games so far - should get more in this weekend with the update - thus the extra painting.  I've gone 1-2 with them - with 1 lose due to a mistake with the powers I threw and the other cuz Mephiston failed some charges for me.  It sucks but that is life.  It still felt like I was in it so at least that was a good thing army wise.  Quick rundown of what I faced.

Game 1 - Drop Guard Elysiums match up. I won this one after round 3 as I burned up all the guys.  Any light armor based army just does not like Novas.  I actually got off most of my powers in this game so that might be why it ended sooner.  Still - I burned up a lot of things.  Highlights - learning Misfortune plus Cleansing flame means I can take down flyers and other things.  Ignoring cover is hot too.

Game 2 - Eldar list with lots of warp spiders.  I lost this one due to trying to use Cleansing flame vs going for Force and Hammer hand.  I could have taken out the Dark Eldar Scalpel group if I had done things right.  Still the army worked out pretty well.  I also should have casted Force and Sanguine sword on Mephiston - could have won me the game there as well.  But again - army didn't feel like I was losing completely.  I failed like 30% of my powers too - plus some key spells like misfortuned etc.  I almost quadrupled the dice of my opponent on warp dice but never stopped a spell either.

Game 3 - Versus Gladius.  This was versus Frankies rough as hell army too.  I failed over 50% of my powers and still almost pulled it out.  If Meph had only not failed 2 charges it might have been me winning the battle report.  Again when the Novas went off they were brutal.  Popping Rhinos and killing all the scouts.  It just causes a lot of hits.  It did make me rethink the army and come up with the following rebuild too.

I gain 6 Objective secured units for the loss of the assault squad and the extra librarian that didn't do much.  I also lose the hammer on one purifier squad which is kind of sad but I found he always died before he got to swing.  This army feels a lot better and I think it will give a lot of armies fits as it does weird things.  Plus it just auto hits everything all the time too.  Will write up the test games this weekend and see how it pans out.

I keep thinking a list like this might be a good meta choice with ITC.  Lots of fast units, a good null deploy strategy and enough weapons to be a hurting.

The idea is that you can outflank everything, come in and be a pain in the butt - hiding out from Tau and other things.  The 2 Cyber Wolf Iron priest join up the Grav Bike squads and give an extra 2 wounds they can sacrifice etc.  The Melta is there - cuz sometimes you need it.  It feels alright - it has a lot of guns and can move around a lot.  The single drop pod is so you can null deploy if you make them go first.

Goatboy's Weekly Thing



Woohoo - I am back.  I actually got some games in with the BA/GK thing and I am finding the game a lot more fun.  It is neat going away from death star nonsense and just trying out something different.  Plus if it goes off it can burn a lot of things to the ground.  Woot...

Anyway the GK/BA list - most likely doing the GK as the warlord as I expect less GK armies at LVO.

Meph is there to go after Wraith Knights and Imperial knights.  The way the army tries to work is get a few cleansing flames off, run with the Purifiers and burn everything.  Things I have learned from this is that I need to look at what I am trying to do and go hammer hand and force for certain things, save more for force in case of other random stuff, go for Misfortune and knock things down.  Lots of stuff.

I had to get 6 pods in there to let me not drop my Purifiers first turn if I don't have too.  It plays odd - doesn't care about set up, and can do a lot of damage to other things.  It plays fun and doesn't do the normal things.  It is funny it is very anti psyker due to all the psyk out grenades I can throw on units without having to waste 140 pts on an Assassin.  Weird stuff - and it is all painted now.  It is one of the first armies I just painted the army - nothing extra.
