Goatboy - I got 2nd overall at the Alamo

Woot - Space Goats for the win. I sorta wished I played my dreadnought list down below, but I went ahead and threw down with a 3 Wolf Lord 1 Rune Priest build. Very similar to the one below. The only big crap tastic thing was my Canis fell and ate it. He shattered but I was able to put him back together. Of course with Plastic Juggers in the future (I hope) there might be a big push to redo 4 of them to get me a completely plastic army. I am just crazy that way haha. And I am kinda out of things to get for armies as I've just about built everything I want to play (Nids and an ork expansion is what I have left).

But anyway here is a bit of a Battle Report. I have forgotten most names, so if you played me pipe in etc. So without further ado, a short and sweet Battle Report.

Round 1 - Shrike and some Marines - Nice player who hasn't played a whole bunch. I make sure to explain my army fully and we get on with it. He hasn't played versus Space Wolves and of course mine is an unorthodox build. I won this game and he rolled some bad rolls to lose some important things. He had a round versus the Thunder Wolf and Friends mob where he won combat (I rolled bad and will continue to roll bad throughout the tournament) and I stuck versus his Terminators. I did have my Saga of the bear Lord try to killed the LRC for 4 rounds of combat (I immobilized it). I even took a break and moved over to the scouts trying to snipe me in the butt. I finally got it at the end to clear his models off the table. 20 points to me.

Round 2 - I play against the first guys friend who came down from another state. I am sorry my brain is addled as we drank a lot of beer in this round. He was playing Blood Angels with a big death company, Seth, and some terminators. He had 2 LR's, one a Crusader and one a Redeemer. He also had two jump squads as well as a 5 man tactical/hold objective unit. He did have one drop pod dread that came in a cool burrowing thing. It was so bad ass I might have to convert some for my dreads. It just looks neat. He got it from Adepticon and I wish I would have seen them too. This game was when my dice where hot and I immobilized the Death Company LRR with only 3 missile shots. The other 6 missiles took the gun off the other LRC. After that initial round of fire, I had to go get him a beer as that was total BS. From there my Wolf Company ate up his Death Company and the counter assault of everyone took all but the Wolf Lord Saga of the Warrior guy. He ended up killing a bunch of guys and ran around being a jerk. I won in the end with Max points as I was an assault away from my Warrior guy hitting his final tactical squad. Good game and a hell of a lot of fun. I think if he would have hide his Dreadnought with Blood Talons behind an LR and ran him out after I got close the game would have been different. He agreed and tried it out later and he had a lot of success with it. 20 points to me.

Round 3 - This was versus a Vulkan less Salamander army. He said that Vulkan wouldn't be with every force and I agree. This was James Sanchez out of Kingsville and an excellent player. It was a dawn of war game and I got lucky to kill one dreadnought. My bad dice rolls started in this game, as the other 2 wolf lords and doggies failed a leadership test and ran off the board. I even almost lost due to charging a salamander squad with two Grey Hunter units and losing combat. He chased both down and I only won with 1 kill point. Very odd game as he couldn't kill an immobilized rhino. This game was a nail biter till the end and really showed that even if losing 700+ points of your army in the first turn, you still can turn it around with some smart general ship. 16 points to me.

This ended Day 1 and it was off to day 2. We had 3 players in the top with Me, Jonathan Willingham and Jon Brock all tied with points. I ended up playing Jonathan with his Logan Wing force.

Round 4 - Jonathan is an ex Toledo guy who now lives in Houston. Hopefully we will get a chance to see him more often as he is a good player. He was playing Logan, some Wolf Guard Terminators, Null Rod Inquisitor, Wolf Priest, 3 Pods full of Grey Hunters and 2 5 Missile Launcher Long fang squads. I was ready to throw in with my super dog unit in the middle but fate did not do me well. I lost every single model to failed armor saves in the first round of Jonathan's shooting phase. He shot me with bolters, storm bolters, flamers, and melta guns and I failed all my cover saves and most of my armor saves to lose every single model without having to roll a leadership test. I also missed almost half of my shooting from any of my Long Fangs as well as most of my own return fire. I stuck it out till the end, but this was a full on loss by me. Jonathan played well and with his slower moving army still played well and beat my poor Goat Ass hah. And it shows that Logan is a monster just like we thought he was. Also at this time, Jonathan had beaten up 3 Austin guys before me. 4 sad little points for me.

Round 5 - Jeff Grajeda (Sp?) - This is a local Austin guy who is a damned good Fantasy player. In fact, his stupid rats have beaten the crap out of my Chaos most of the time. He was throwing down with Orks and as you know I am a seasoned Ork player. Jeff had some bad nob biker placement and I capitalized on it. My Super Wolf unit took out the nob bikerz, 2 Battle Wagons, Ghazghul and a full squad of Meganobz. I would say that is a pretty even trade. Jeff had one Mega Dread coming at me the entire game and my missiles were just bouncing off. The turn before he would crash into my guys a missile finally blew it up. I was rooting for the Metal beast to get in there and cause some damage. I ended up whipping him from the table. Grey Hunters are great versus charging Orks. 30 + attacks, yes please. Good game and it is always great to see both sides of the GW universe play together and become something more then just squares versus circles. Max points to me.

I ended up at 2nd overall and took home their Davy Crockett Award for best sportsman. They knew it was a better prize then 2nd overall. I got 3 best game votes and was somewhat of an anomaly to have 3 best games and have as many battle points as I did. I had a great weekend and a great time. I won my 3rd Stompa so maybe one day I will get around to making them. Most likely one will be a crazy terrain piece for Bolscon.

I want to say a big thank you to Alamo people that ran a great tournament. I plan on coming back next year and if 8th edition is as cool as the rumors are saying it is then maybe you will see my Warriors of Chaos come down to San Antonio and try not to lose too badly.

Stupid lists I am playing or planning

I know I am not the most orthodox list builder. Beyond certain troop stylings, I usually go with some kind of assault or hammer unit, mixed with good ranged fire, and some good anti troop firepower. That mix has kept me in the winners bracket most of the time and lets me play the style of game I enjoy, a take all comers style.

But without further thought, here are my 3 main playing lists (one is in the works). Nids will be coming in a few months, so expect that to pop up here. Now these are not my goofy fun lists. These are what I consider competitive and still being able to give some kind of a game. Really my only desire is to give my opponent a game, whether it is a competitive one or just a fun one. I want to give them something that they can have fun with. Of course I might table you, but still I want to have fun.

All lists will be 2000 points, as that is what we play locally.

Space Goats/Space Wolves

HQ: Wolf Lord, Thunder Wolf Mount, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield, Runic Armor, Saga of the Bear, Wolf Tail Necklace, Fenris Wolves X 2 - 285pts
HQ: Wolf Lord, Thunder Wolf Mount, Frost Axe, Storm Shield, Runic Armor, Saga of the Warrior Borne, Wolf Tail Necklace, Fenris Wolves X 2 - 280pts
HQ: Canis, Fenris Wolves X 2 - 205pts
HQ: Wolf Lord, Thunder Wolf Mount, Powerfist, Storm Shield, Runic Armor, Saga of Majesty, Wolf Tail Necklace Fenris Wolves X 2 - 260pts
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, Meltagun x 2, MoW - 170pts
Transport: Rhino - 35pts
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, Meltagun x 2, MoW - 170pts
Transport: Rhino - 35pts
Troops: Grey Hunters X 10, Flamer X 2, MoW - 165pts
Transport: Rhino - 35pts
Fast Attack: Fenris Wolves X 10 - 80pts
Heavy: Long Fangs X 6, ML X 5 - 140pts
Heavy: Long Fangs X 6, ML X 5 - 140pts

Pts - 2000pts

This is a pretty super crazy character list and is not always the most fun to play against. You will have those games where those wolf lords just go all crazy Justin Bieber fan and cut a bitch all over the place. The Saga of Majesty will help keep you on the board in case of a massed anti dog fire hitting the unit. The design is to break away after turn 1 and go about doing some hurting. This list isn't for everyone, but really fits my style. And 30 troopers is pretty sweet.

Heavy list - rating towards the super heavy side.

Ork Robots are Awesome!!!

HQ: Warboss, Mega Armor, Attack Squig, Bosspole, Cybork - 130pts
HQ: Big Mek, Burna, Cybork, Eavy Armor, Kustom Force Field, Bosspole, Attack Squig - 120pts

Elites: MegaNobz X 5 - 200pts
Transport: Trukk, Red Paint Job - 40pts
Troops: Nobz Mob X 5, Painboy, Power Klaw X 3, Bosspole, Waagh Banner, Eavy Armor X 5, Cybork Body - 270pts
Transport: Battlewagon, Big Shoota X 2, Deff Rolla - 120pts
Troops: Shoota Boyz X 20, Rokkit Launcha X 2, Nob, Power Klaw, Bosspole - 180pts

Troops: Deff Dread, Dreadnought CCW X 2, Xtra Armor, Grot Riggas - 120pts
Heavy: Killa Kans X 3, Rokkit Launchas X 3 - 150pts
Heavy: Battlewagon, Big Shoota X 2, Deff Rolla - 120pts
Heavy: Battlewagon, Big Shoota X 2, Deff Rolla - 120pts

Pts - 1995pts

Midrange Heavy - Certain armies will just tear it apart. If you plan on playing it remember skating your Wagons around will help out, use them as floating assault bases. The dreads hide behind and give a nice counter assault as well as the Meganobz. Remember, a turn three massed assault is great to help keep you in the winners circle.

Goat Angels/DREADNOUGHTS HOOOO!!!

HQ: Mephiston - 250pts
Elites: Furioso Librarian Dreadnought, Wings, Shield - 175pts
Elites: Furioso Librarian Dreadnought, Wings, Blood Lance - 175pts
Troops: Death Company X 10, Power Weapon, Power Fist - 240pts
Transport: Rhinos - 50pts
Troops: Death Company Dreadnought, Blood Talons - 125pts
Troops: Death Company Dreadnought, Blood Talons - 125pts
Troops: Assault Squad X 5 - 100pts
Transport: Razorback, TWL Hvy Flamer - 20pts
Troops: Assault Squad X 5 - 100pts
Transport: Razorback, TWL Lascannon - 55pts
Troops: Assault Squad X 5 - 100pts
Transport: Razorback, TWL Lascannon - 55pts
FA: Baal Predator, Flamestorm Cannon - 115pts
Heavy: Vindicator, Siege Shield - 155pts
Heavy: Vindicator, Siege Shield - 155pts

Pts 1995pts

Heavy on the Heavy side. There is nothing in this army that you lose and you automatically lose the game. All bits are just cogs in the Mech jerkhole machine. I like the Vindicators as they go on a whole, I go through buildings with my Siege Shield phase towards the end of the game.

The lack of good troops is a problem, but the more I play with Blood Angels the more glass jaw I find them. 2 Long Ranged Lascannons to hopefully deal with any jerks that might be flying around too.

But there you go, 3 current Goatboy lists I play. These are all long the Heavy/Competitive side of things and when I normally play a fun game I don't bring anything like this. I usually try for some goofy stuff and test out different units to see if they might have any chance to make it to the big leagues hah.

FIrst of all

I moved the painting bits to my main site - Full of Monkey Painting Blog. Just a heads up, check it out I post weekly with stuff I am working on. Lots of random conversion stuff as well as other bits and pieces.

I will continue this blog as a place for my army lists, other links to other game related blogs, as well as just my kinda extra thoughts for the week. Most of the time it will be lists though, as that is my bread and butter haha. Currently I just finished up all the extra stuff for my Goat Angels/Space Goats army list. Current play list I am throwing down with for Goat Angels is a dreadnought heavy force. It is very aggressive list, which is normal for my builds. And I get to play the Space Goat Pope - Counts as Mephiston.

HQ: Mephiston
Elites: Librarian Dreadnought (Blood Lance, Wings)
Elites: Librarian Dreadnought (Shield, Wings)
Troops: Death Company (10), Power Weapon, Power Fist
Transport: Rhino
Troops: Death Company Dreadnought, Blood Talons
Troops: Death Company Dreadnought, Blood Talons
Troops: Assault Squad (5)
Transport: Razorback, TWL Lascannon
Troops: Assault Squad (5)
Transport: Razorback, TWL Lascannon
Troops: Assault Squad (5)
Transport: Razorback, TWL Lascannon
FA: Baal Predator, Flamestorm Cannon
Heavy: Vindicator, Siege Shield
Heavy: Vindicator, Siege Shield

I know, copy paste for the troop choices but I really needed the range. The siege shield Vindicators are there to contest later, as they don't care about any terrain in front of them. It "MOVE, GIT OUT THA WAY, GIT OUT THA WAY, GIT OUT THA WAY!!!". But this is most likely my normal play list as I just like to throw down with Dreadnoughts. I might look at dropping Mephiston for other stuff, but really right now I just want to run and punch things in the face.

This weekend sees me playing at the Alamo 40k GT. I got my ticket for Vegas, but really wanted to throw down at this one. I am playing my Space Goats list this time, which is somewhat based off my list from Adepticon. The point totals are 2000 pts, and I changed up my Long Fang Squads to 3 - 3 ML, 2 HB squads as well as added in Canis and a Rune Priest. The 3 Grey Hunter squads has one with 9 guys to hide the Rune Priest in it. The dogs are also lessened as I was needing to tweak some points. Will see how they do. I know my Space Wolf lists are unorthodox but I think people need to look at going away from the normal builds that look too Space Marine like and go for things that represent well in that codex, pure brick to the face haha.

Goatboy 40k: Some Minis and Space Goats Ard Boyz list

I won't be playing Ard Boyz this year. Another wedding keeps me away. But I can still write lists haha. Who knows if this will be any good, but it sure does have a crap what am I facing feel to it.

HQ: Canis, Fenris Wolves X 2
HQ: Wolf Lord, Thunder Wolf, Saga of the Bear, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield, Wolf Tail Talisman, Runic Armor, Fenris Wolves X 2
HQ: Wolf Lord, Thunder Wolf, Saga of the Warrior Borne, Frost Weapon, Storm Shield, Wolf Tail Talisman, Runic Armor, Fenris Wolves X 2
HQ: Wolf Lord, Thunder Wolf, Saga of Majesty, Powerfist, Storm Shield, Wolf Tail Talisman, Runic Armor, Fenris Wolves X 2
Troops: Fenris Wolves X 15
Troops: Grey Hunters (10), Meltagun x 2, MoW, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters (10), Meltagun x 2, MoW, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters (10), Meltagun x 2, MoW, Rhino
Troops: Grey Hunters (5), Flamer, Razorback, TWL
Troops: Grey Hunters (5), Flamer, Razorback, TWL
Heavy: Long Fangs (6), ML X 5
Heavy: Long Fangs (6), ML X 5
Heavy: Long Fangs (6), ML X 5

This is my pure Assault with long range finger pointing action. It should be able to hurt someone, has 6 scoring units and a shit ton of tanks. Are you going to shoot the jerks with dogs coming at you? We also have 4 Wolf Tail Talisman's riding in the squad. Psychic battle squads? I don't think so. Roll 4 dice and if you get a 5 it turns off. Lash, 4 dice to get a 5. Good times i say. It also has enough Melta to hurt things as needed and the range is pretty good with 48" of everywhere. Who knows if it is any good. I would just need to make one more rhino and some extra dudes to have this army. Fun times indeed.

I am also wondering if a nob biker army could be a good dark horse initial play army for the beginning. It is something to think about as it does a good job of fully whipping out an enemy if not prepared for. Something to think about haha.

But alright - some Goat Angels stuff I painted up to get the army ready to go. I am itching to play some BA and I am a stickler about playing all painted armies. This also keeps me sane form the Nids stuff I am doing as well as finishing up an IG order that is huge haha. Fun times fun times. The Baal turret was built by a friend. I will be doing another one to match it up and keep the crazy Orkish/Chaos/Mad Max style the army seems to have.

The white guy is the Sanguinary Priest.

And here is a Lictor for the snow Nids I am painting up. I should have a Trygon later on this week too, got him built and the base built up. I need to add in some baby rippers running around. After that there is a Mawloc for the same guy as well as some Tervigons for another client. Fun times! The lictor is blending into the metal, thus the slight change in skin tone as well as reflecting the green glow. Plus some of the crazy Zonathropes I built for the customer.

I also did some quick WoC for a local client. They were fun to do and I just had fun working up the blue for this army.

Finally some Warmachine stuff. First some Khador things for the same client from before.

And some Bane Thralls for myself.

This are all from the last 3 weeks. I got a lot to do this coming month or so, so come back and check it out. My armies are pretty much done for now, with all the Nids needing to get finished before I can even think of my own gibbering horde.

Goatboy 40k: Tweaking CSM

Alright I am redoing some of the Chaos Lord stuff. As usual, discussion among friends brings new thoughts to my head, as well as configuration and set up etc. The two other HQ options I will go over are the Daemon Prince and the Herald (Regular human psyker who has been touched by Chaos).

So lets relook at the Chaoslord and then I can post the Herald. Tomorrow I will post the DP and then start on the Elites section that I want to do some changes too.

Chaoslord - 135pts
Base Rules: Fearless, Independent Character, Eternal Warrior, 5+ Inv save

Gift of Knowledge - May reroll one failed armor/inv save per turn - 25pts

So that gives a bit more uniformity on all the Chaos Lord options. Plus it makes Daemonic weapons not suck when they roll a 1. Which I think is the biggest FU from GW for what should be the most awesome of awesome weapons. And it makes a Chaos Lord of Khorne be extra scary.

Next HQ is the Herald. I wanted to create something that was a sorcerer variant, but not really a bad ass fighter. That is what the Chaos Lord is for. So lets go with the psychic lord choice. The herald of Chaos.

Herald of Chaos - 50pts - May chose 2 per HQ slot, both do not have to be of the same mark. Can only join units with the same mark as they have.

As usual comment away please. These are just thoughts and ideas I have to make CSM more interesting. The herald was a way to keep the psychic potential without some of the nonsense. Also as a way to make sure you want to take a Chaos Lord. I also wanted to tweak Lash and leave it as a good thing that isn't as crazy as it was. Of course if these rules were truly published it would state something that the models set up needs to stay the same (ie not bunching them together) as this power is a way to get there and get into assault. And these are all thoughts that are always open for change. I am just using this as way to stretch my mind a bit and give something interesting to the community beyond my articles and other zany thoughts.

Goatboy: Rules thoughts for CSM

So as you can tell, I really like Chaos. I don't know what it is about me, but whenever I play an abstract game (something beyond my own personality or own opinions on good/evil) I always gravitate towards the evil guys. I just like the horns, the crazy looks, the conversion potential of evil jerks. It just some how fits my own aesthetic for modeling as well as "Holy Crap that is cool". So when each new Marine dex comes out and my power CSM just look sadder and sadder. Thus my push for Space Goats, Goat Angels, and whatever nonsense I come up with next to somehow let myself play with cool and new toys. So in the whole home spun rules thing, I just want to go through and tweak the CSM codex with some thoughts that might make it cooler. I don't think anyone will play with this as it is just an exercise of game writing that I like to do from time to time.

So first - lets start with HQ's.

I personally think all the CSM HQ's should be 0-1 for the codex. Who would think to let two Chaos Lords rule side by side. Or two Daemon Princes. So with that in mind, we have to make each of these choices a bit more kick ass. The CSM lord is going to follow in the lines of the Wolf Lord as I feel that is the closet representation of a true Chaos Lord out there. The Librarian will most likely fall into the Blood Angels side of things with the Daemon Prince being a mixture of Space Wolves and Blood Angels. I also want to add in a Chaplain as a Dark Apostle of sorts. But enough of that - I will list the Unit, base cost and upgrades I think would work for them.

Chaos Lord - This is the bad ass of bad asses. He should hit a squad, mess it up, and live to tell as pain rains down on them. I really want them to be something you chose, not something you pick because you want to be nicer etc.

So basically I wanted to make what we all think a Chaos Lord should be. A combat monster. I also went ahead and locked into specific Mark armies. I know they wanted everyone to buy anything they wanted, but I felt that it just wasn't very cool. If you wanted everyone you need to take Mark of Chaos Undivided. I took away Tzeentch's +1 to inv saves as I wanted a Chaos Lord to have the option for a Storm Shield variant. It makes no sense that they shouldn't have one.

Lets look at a Khorne Lord -
Chaos Lord, Mark of Khorne, Daemonic Weapon, Daemonic Shield, Daemonic Armor, Juggernaut of Khorne, Hate of Khorne - 295pts -
You get a combat monster who makes all your guys especially more killie. Of course most likely those guys will kill whatever they hit and then they are left out to get shot up. But Khorne cares not right?

I will go ahead and write up a the next HQ: Daemon Prince and from there get into the elites as well as my radical change to the troop option. I think it will be pretty neat and allow you to create a bit more interesting army. Of course no one will use this, but at least it will give me some exercise stretching my brain a bit.

Do you think this is too much? Comment away. Again this is just for fun and something goofy to do.

Goatboy is Back

I will be working for 11 days straight. A friend covered for me while I was gone (yay for a low amount of coworkers) so now it is my turn to cover for him. This means lots and lots of minis are going to get painted. Right now here is the plain.

Depending on what comes in - might be doing some Baal Predators and Vindicators. We shall see. I bet I get over half done, so will see. Depending on the mood I get in. But that is the so called plan. Look for another post later on this week with my Goat Angels army as well as some Ard Boyz thoughts for BA. It should be pretty fun hah.

And some minis. I swear more later. I am still tired.
